Cork On Show sold out with International opera star, Cara O’Sullivan

Cara O'Sullivan

10th March 2008 - The Cork Opera House was sold out on Sunday, 9th March for the fifth Cork on Show, which raised money for Cork Cancer Research Centre. The cream of Cork's talent was on display and was headlined by internationally renowned opera star, Cara O'Sullivan, who along with the other well-known participating performers gave their time and talents free.

Co-producer Charlotte O'Byrne said "It was the best one yet. It all came together on the night and the atmosphere was unbelievable."

Comedians Noel Barrett and Pat Sullivan were on top form, along with Shayron Hobbs and David Keelan singing both solo and duet. Classic dance and Ballet fans were certainly well catered for with performances from most of the major schools in Cork & County including The Joan Denise Moriarty School of Dance, The Montfort College of Performing Arts, The Cork Irish Dance Company and also The Performers Academy.

The legendary Joe Mac was said to be at his best as the showband tribute to the late Peter Prendergast went down a storm. Also appearing in this segment were the fabulous “Tuxedo Junction Big Band” and stars from The Showband Era – Brendan O’Brien, Declan Ryan, and Gina of The Champions. PJ Coogan played the part of Mr Prendergast.

However, it was eight year old Gerald Ahern from Dublin Hill, the winner of the “Blackpool’s Got Talent” competition who made his Opera House debut, that stole the show and had the House rocking with his solo singing performance.

“Cork on Show” was co-produced & directed by Charlotte O'Byrne and Kevin Sanquest; Musical Director, Dave (Doc) O’Connor; Stage Director, Ross Anderson; Choreographer, Sinead Murphy; MC, Dr. Kevin Goggin.

The organising committee of “Cork on Show 5” wish to thank all the performers who gave freely of their time and talent. They also wish to thank their title sponsor Blackpool Shopping Centre & Retail Park (Shipton Group), their Media sponsor Evening Echo, Beamish & Crawford plc and its many sponsors who have given very generously to Cork Cancer Research Centre.
