September 2nd – 4th 2009: Let’s Talk Treatment
Cork Cancer Research Centre successfully secured the hosting of the 2009 annual conference of the International Society for Cell & Gene Therapy of Cancer (ISCGT) which took place at UCC, Cork in September.
The ISCGT is an international society for clinicians and scientists with shared interests in new therapies for cancer. The 2009 conference was held in conjunction with the third annual conference of the Irish Society for Gene & Cell Therapy and also featured a mini-symposium with the Irish Association of Cancer Research.
The 2009 conference consisted of 12 sessions over three days, including keynote lectures from high profile national and international speakers from China, Germany, Japan, the UK, and the USA. It focused on the current trends and future directions in cell and gene therapy against cancer, as well as focusing on the current treatments and challenges.

September 3rd 2009: Free Public Information Evening
New treatments available for cancer...
New treatments available for cancer were discussed by world cancer experts from the USA and Europe in a free public information evening “The Promise of Gene Therapy – Newest Cancer Treatments” on Thursday, September 3rd. The event was hosted by Cork Cancer Research Centre (CCRC) and took place at the Lifetime Lab, Lee Road, Cork at 6.30pm.
Five specialists shared the new treatments they have pioneered for cancer patients. The specialists were in Cork to participate in a three day international conference on cancer gene therapy. They discussed cancer research, clinical trials, the prognosis for gene therapy, and in addition, what is gene therapy and why gene therapy is seen as one of the leading treatments in the future of treating cancer.
