Challenge Yourself for Charity
If you are looking for a new adventure and, at the same time, want to make a difference in the fight against cancer, look no further. We have teamed up with ACARA Open Challenges to offer our supporters a variety of destination treks as an alternative way to raise vital funds for cancer research.
ACARA has introduced the concept of the Open Challenge to the Irish market. An Open Challenge is a unique way of organising one event to benefit numerous charities, both large and small. Each participant has the choice to choose the charity they want to support and we hope that you will consider CORK CANCER RESEARCH CENTRE for one of these challenges in 2010:
EXTREME CHALLENGES
Kilimanjaro 2010
Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the highest freestanding mountains in the world, towering 19,000 feet above the surrounding plains of Tanzania. The trek to this wonderful destination is running throughout the year on various dates, and is on offer on a request basis.

May 2010 - Hawaii Open Trek Challenge
Challenge: Moderate
Duration: 10 days
Journey: Long haul
Charity: Cork Cancer Research Centre
Discovered in 1778 by Captain James Cook, this sunny Hawaiian paradise is one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Kaua’i is celebrated for its breathtaking canyons and valleys, majestic mountain peaks and white sandy beaches. Early sea captains, enchanted by the lush tropical scenery, called Kaua’i the “Garden Island”, a nickname that is still used today. The challenge explores Kaua’i, venturing onto its exposed North shore, through canyons and deep into the green heart of this volcanic paradise.

September 2010 - Mount Etna Open Trek Challenge
Challenge: Tough
Duration: 7 days
Journey: Short haul
Charity: Cork Cancer Research Centre
Standing at almost 11,000 feet, Mount Etna dominates the Sicilian skyline. This is the most active volcano in the world. The ancient Greeks believed it to be the home of Vulcan, the God of Fire. This challenge will take trekkers through some of the most beautiful forest tracks and valleys where there are superb contrasts between lava flows and pine forest. The climax of the challenge is the climb to the summit of Mount Etna, Europe’s highest volcano.

October 2010 - Argentina Open Trek Challenge
Challenge: Moderate
Duration: 13 days
Journey: Long haul

Argentina, meaning "land of silver", is a rich and vast land - second largest country in South America and eight largest in the world. Its heartland is a broad grassy plain known as the Pampas. Here Argentina's gauchos have galloped into the country's folklore. Argentina offers a true escape for the more adventurous. From the tropical forests of the northeast or the exciting and cosmopolitan capital city of Buenos Aires, to the windswept and spectacular scenery of Patagonia, this land of contrasts offers a wealth of possibilities.
